Bandipur, a charming hill town midway between Kathmandu and Pokhara, is situated eight kilometers above Dumre Bazaar at an altitude of 1,005m. This ancient trading post lies cradled in the saddle of some of the country's most peculiar-shaped hills. From its vantage point under a mixed forest canopy of pine and sal, Bandipur village overlooks a wide panorama of mountains that includes Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Manaslu and Ganesh Himal. Nearby, the Marshyangdi River cascades down from the high Himalayas and the terraced fields all around offer a blissful experience. A few days can easily be whiled away with visits to the surrounding areas, and short day hiking into the neighborhood of the hills will reveal two distinct cultures that have mingled in harmony for hundreds of years.
