Overview

The Everest Chola Pass trek offers you panoramic mountain views from every destination. Following the famous Everest Trail, we trek to the prosperous village of Namche Bazaar and onwards, alongside the torrential Imtse Khola, to the high valley below Everest. During the course of this excellent and relatively easy-paced trek, we visit many delightful Sherpa villages, including the stunningly located Thengboche with its impressive backdrop of Everest and Ama Dablam. We trek over the Everest Chola Pass onwards toward Gokyo, where we rest for some side treks, including a climb of Gokyo Ri for some fantastic views. A further three days are spent descending to Lukla for our flight to Kathmandu. A memorable flight from Kathmandu to the airstrip at Lukla takes us into an alpine world where the air is crystal clear and colorful prayer flags flutter from the rooftops.

Highlights of the Trip

Scenic flight to Lukla. Explore the Sherpa museum in Namche Bazaar. Enjoy the panoramic view from Syangboche. Experience Sherpa culture in Khumjung village. Visit the famous Tengboche Monastery. Grand mountain views from Kala Pattar - Spectacular views of glaciers from Everest Base Camp - View the beautiful glacial lake from Gokyo peak.

Difficulties of the Trek

Since the terrain can be hard and the days long, hikers on the Everest Chola Pass trek should be in good physical condition and have some previous mountain walking experience. However, It does not require any technical experience. Steep climbing may be involved, although it is never necessary to use ropes.

Sample Day on the Everest Chola Pass Trek

You will wake up eager to start your Everest trekking day. Before breakfast you pack your stuff into your kit bag which is then taken by the porters and will not usually be available to you until lodge that afternoon. We are usually on the trail between 7.30 am and 8.30 am. Following a good morning's walk, we stop for lunch at around 11 am. Lunch is usually a one-hour break to allow for the trekker's meal followed by the crew's meal. This break also enables you to do your washing or take a short break, although with stops along the way, you will have a moderately graded trek. Speed is not important; stamina, confidence and continuity are. The evenings are spent reading or chatting with your associate trekkers and crew about the trip so far. A pack of cards is an asset on these nights; the crew love teaching various Nepali card games and learning new Western games. Finally, Before going to bed your guide will brief your about tomorrow's trekking route. It’s off to bed for a well deserved night's rest before you continue on your Everest Chola Pass trek.
